GENERAL LOCAL ELECTIONS-2023 in Moldova: Synthesis of 17 October day

Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - The electoral agenda of the day of 17 October included a news conference given by the candidate for the position of Chisinau city mayor on behalf of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (DA), Victor Chironda, with the subject, Answer of Victor Chironda to Ion Ceban’s threats.
„All camps are sure of his victory and got used to the thought that he will win. And only I am fighting. I tell the truth. I bother. I bothered him, as I showed that Russian drawers are hidden beneath Ceban’s sac suit of European. Do you realize? Ceban demanded some 1,000 euros as moral damages. This is value of his honour, 21,600 lei. Let us everybody give 1 leu each and compensate to Ceban,’’ the candidate of DA Platform said.
Also today, the candidate of the Revival Party for the office of Chisinau general mayor, Vasile Bolea, held a news conference. He tackled the issue of the tariffs on the eve of the winter and the need to protect the well-being of the Chisinau residents. ‘’The team of the Revival Party comes up with concrete solutions, in order to cope with this problem, including the increase in the number of beneficiaries of compensations, support for the professions from education and health, as well as special measures for the elderly people and the ones without natural gas,’’ Bolea said.
The president of the National Alternative Movement Party (MAN), Ion Ceban, at a today’s news conference, referred to the capital’s social sector. ‘’We have managed to create in Chisinau a wide and various range of social services, which do not exist in any other settlement of the country. Despite all crises, we take care of all categories: elderly people, children, disabled people, young families, socially vulnerable people and families, etc.,’’ Ceban said. The MAN leader was focused on the subsequent programmes, which he is set to carry out in the fields of youth, education, health, sport, culture, social assistance and protection of the child.
Today, the League of Cities and Communes (LOC) issued a declaration on participation in the local polls in the Chisinau municipality. According to LOC deputy president Alexandru Bujorean, the current electoral campaign did not start as en elective democratic process, but with more media shows, infringements and so-called unmaskings, meant to dirty the League of Cities and Communes. ‘’Nevertheless, despite these provocations, LOC has managed to have candidates in 11 districts of Moldova and the Chisinau city,’’ Bujorean noted.
Also today, the candidate for the 5 November general local elections, Ruslan Codreanu, held a news conference to unveil ‘’Ideas, Not Confrontations: the Pact of the Elegant Campaign. The candidate intends to promote a civilized electoral campaign in the Chisinau city and invites all contenders to sign this pact, committing to carry out a campaign based on political maturity and constructive dialogue.
The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the office of Chisinau general mayor, Lilian Carp, along with a candidate for the position of municipal councilor on behalf of PAS, Anneta Dabija, held a news conference today. The PAS candidate tackled the issue of town-planning in the capital. Lilian Carp said that the present urban plans from the Chisinau municipality had been compiled with serious infringements, which PAS will remedy at the head of the capital. Carp gave examples statements with concrete situations registered in the city, in which the principles of the social infrastructure are not observed.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today informed that over 60,000 candidates had been registered for the general local elections due on 5 November 2023. Over 3,900 candidates were recorded for those 898 positions of mayor and more than 56,000 people – for those 11,058 offices of councilor in district councils. For comparison: 3,761 candidates for the office of mayor and 50,410 candidates for the position of councilor were registered at the local polls held in 2019.
CEC today also amended a decision on the confirmation of the nominal composition of the electoral council of the Donduseni district electoral constituency. CEC confirmed the people in charge of finances (treasurers) on behalf of the Speranța – Надежда (Hope) Movement of Professionals and on behalf of the NEW HISTORICAL OPTION POLITICAL PARTY for the period of the electoral campaign of the general local polls due on 5 November 2023. The Commission accredited a person as international observer on behalf of the Central Electoral Commission of Azerbaijan for the monitoring of the general local elections due on 5 November 2023.
