Moldovan-Swiss officials approach cooperation

Chisinau, Oct. 19 /MOLDPRES/- On October 18-19, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu is on an official visit to the Swiss Confederation, following an invitation of President Alain Berset, the presidential press service has reported.
“I had a warm welcome on behalf of President Alain Berset today in Bern. Switzerland, a reliable friend, has generously supported us over the years. The initiatives supported by the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Republic of Moldova improve people's standard of living", said Maia Sandu.
Thanks to the support offered by the Swiss Confederation, thousands of Moldovans in rural areas have access to drinking water, conditions in maternity hospitals and health services for adolescents have been improved, and young people can follow professional education programs that meet market requirements. On October 17, in Chisinau, within the Moldova Support Platform, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis announced a new assistance package, which will help us further modernize the country and improve the standard of living for our citizens.
During discussions with President Berset and members of the Federal Council, the head of state also addressed economic cooperation. This summer, Moldova signed a free trade agreement - EFTA - with Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. After its ratification by the Swiss legislature, companies from both countries will benefit from more opportunities. Maia Sandu said that the Swiss partners support us in our fight against corruption, so that those who stole the country are brought to justice.
"On behalf of all Moldovan citizens, I thanked President Berset, members of the Federal Council and all Swiss citizens for the support and continuous solidarity of Switzerland," the head of state said.
