General local elections: Changes to candidate lists can be made by October 26

Chisinau, Oct. 23 /MOLDPRES/- Changing the list of candidates or withdrawing from the electoral race in the general local elections can be done until October 26.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), political parties and electoral blocs can request a change of order or the exclusion (withdrawal) of the candidate from the registered list or the entire list of candidates.

"The decision on changing the list of candidates is adopted by the political party or the electoral bloc. Political party or electoral bloc presents to the electoral council decision regarding the modification of the list of candidates confirmed by the report or, as the case may be, by an extract from the report of the meeting of the central body or territorial of the political party or the electoral bloc. The constituency electoral council, in no more than three days from the date of submission of the application, adopts the decision regarding the modification of the list of candidates of the applicant electoral competitor or, as the case may be, issues the identification cards", said the CEC.

Following any change in the list of candidates, compliance with the gender quota of 40% for both sexes will be taken into account, and the positioning of candidates in the lists will be done according to the formula: minimum four candidates for every 10 seats.

Within the same term, the electoral candidate can withdraw his candidacy. In the case of candidates nominated by political parties and electoral blocs, requests to withdraw from the race are submitted to the electoral council within the same term. The independent candidate has the right to withdraw his candidacy within the same period. In this case, the request regarding the withdrawal of the independent candidate is submitted personally by him to the electoral council.

After the expiration of the term, the competitor's registration can be canceled by the decision of the electoral council that registered him, based on the decision of the court, in case of his death or other circumstances provided by law.

The general local elections will take place on November 5.
