Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/ - The ensuring of transparency, the observance of the free and democratic processes in the electoral context have been the subjects discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and representatives of the European Network of Election Monitoring Organizations (ENEMO), on a mission to monitor the elections due on 5 November 2023, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.
The PM stressed that the cabinet had backed a string of legislative amendments, in order to ensure a free, fair and transparent electoral process.
„It is essential that now, in the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, we make sure that the law is observed not only on the day of elections, but on the entire electoral period. The state’s institutions will not allow illegal financings of the parties and of the electoral campaigns. We rely on the recommendations of the ENEMO observers in this process,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
The ENEMO representatives said the mission would provide the expertise necessary to improve the transparency of the electoral process. At the same time, they are to assess the latter’s integrity and compatibility with Moldova’s international obligations, with the standards for the democratic elections, as well as with the domestic legislative framework.
To monitor the 5 November ballot, the European Network of Election Monitoring Organizations accredited four members of the basic team and four members for long term, as part of its International Election Observation Mission. ENEMO activated its sixth mission in Moldova for the local elections from 5 November.
