Exhibition dedicated to Moldovan Ruler Dimitrie Cantemir inaugurated at National Museum of Romanian Literature

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled, The immortal unicorn, was inaugurated at the National Museum of Romanian Literature today. The event is organized within the Year of Dimitrie Cantemir, on the occasion of the 350 anniversary of the birthday and three centuries since the passing away of the illustrious great scholar.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the curator of the exhibition, Veronica Boldisor, said this exhibition showed the life and work of Dimitrie Cantemir in documents, rare books, fine art, philately, photos from the funds of the National Museum of Romanian Literature.
Attending the event, academician Andrei Esanu said that, 350 years after the birth of Dimitrie Cantemir, his name was lasting in the Romanian culture, as well as in the European and universal ones.
Dimitrie Cantemir was born to a noble family in the settlement Silisteni, Falciu commune, presently Dimitrie Cantemir, Vaslui county of Romania, on 26 October 1673. He was Ruler of Moldova two times (in March-April 1693 and in 1710-1711) and a great scholar. Among his occupations, there were the ones of encyclopaedist, ethnographer, geographer, philosopher, historian, linguist, musicologist and composer. Cantemir was member of the Academy of Sciences from Berlin and died on 21 August 1723.
The exhibition will be opened till 3 January 2024.
