Moldovan parliament concludes Memorandum of Understanding with Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s parliament and the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding. The document was signed by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and his Ukrainian counterpart Ruslan Stefanchuk, at the second parliamentary summit of the Crimea Platform, held in the Czech Republic, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.     

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed, in order to boost the bilateral parliamentary relations, including given that both Moldova and Ukraine have the goal of European integration, after they received the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union.    

The, Moldova and Ukraine agreed to consolidate the cooperation, in order to regulate a joint framework for supporting the parliamentary processes and procedures. According to the Memorandum, the cooperation between the parliament of Moldova and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will regard more aspects. Among them, there is the support and promotion of the democratic values, fundamental rights and freedoms, of the stability and security in the region; improvement of the standards of the legislative processes and procedures, which will allow an efficient incorporation of the agenda of integration into EU and the boosting of the cooperation with the NATO. Also, the parliament of Moldova and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consolidate their efforts for a more efficient management of eventual crises and for the promotion of the common interests, in order to get closer to the European Union.       

The parliamentary institutions from Chisinau and Kiev will make efforts for strengthening the institutional capacities of enhancing the transparency of the work and of providing the analytical and research support in the legislative process. In the context of the consolidation of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, mutual visits at the level of the parliaments’ leadership, joint meetings of the parliamentary commissions and friendship groups, visits on study and exchange of good practices, trainings, parliamentary conferences, etc. will be organized. The actions will regard both the lawmakers and the civil servants.   

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu is in Prague, where he participates in the parliamentary summit of the Crimea Platform.
