GENERAL LOCAL ELECTIONS-2023 in Moldova: Synthesis of 24 October day

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - The electoral agenda of the 24 October day included a news conference given by the candidate for the office of mayor of the Chisinau city on behalf of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (DA), Victor Chironda.
„During this electoral campaign, I noticed that mayor Ivan Ceban avoids TV discussions. They say that he does not participate in the TV debates, because of the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) does not allow him to do this. She should take care not to lose control and say something that would ruin the plans of taking over the power in Moldova. To combat these rumours, I invite Mr. Mayor to discussions in open air. Ion, starting from 25 October, I wait you daily in front of the Triumph Arch, at 12:00, to discuss the problems of the Chisinau residents,’’ Chironda said.
The president of the National Alternative Movement Party (MAN), Ion Ceban, at a today’s news conference, referred to the Moldovan capital’s modernization. ‘’We will continue the Programme on modernization of the illumination on streets and in districts, where it is necessary to cover 100 per cent the street illumination in all districts of the capital. We will approve the normative acts and will find solutions to organize car parks against payment in the historical centre,’’ Ion Ceban said.
Also today, the candidate of the Revival Party for the office of general mayor of the Chisinau city, Vasile Bolea, held a news briefing and tackled the issue on the communal and housing sector.
„I discussed the importance of the communal and housing sector in Chisinau and the urgent needs of modernization in this sector. Among the measures proposed, there are the increase in the salaries for the workers in the field, optimizing the processes of waste collection, investments in modern equipment and consolidation of the present infrastructure,’’ Vasile Bolea said.
The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the office of the Chisinau general mayor, Lilian Carp, today gave a news conference on the problems faced by the business environment from the capital and presented his and PAS team’s vision for the economic development of the Chisinau municipality. ‘’Our goals for Chisinau are realizable and needed for people; many of them could have already been implemented projects, which the residents are to enjoy; yet, there was no interest, but for actions which brought PR and benefits to those who were at the head of the local administration,’’ Lilian Carp said.
Also today, the candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) for the office of Chisinau general mayor, Adrian Albu, held a news briefing on the social problems in the capital. ‘Together with the PSRM team, I unveiled the social priorities, which comprise more actions which will make the lives of people from the Chisinau city much better. We do not only promise, but fulfill,’’ Adrian Albu said.
The candidate for the position of Chisinau mayor on behalf of the Chance Party, Cristina Vulpe, today presented the programme on the development of the Rascani district of the capital.
„You have no legitimacy to demand the votes of my generation!,’’ said the youngest candidate for the office of Chisinau general mayor on behalf of the Coalition for Unity and Well-being (CUB), Ion Bulgac. He made a posting on a social network, thereby saying that the people who had failed to edify a country at their time had no legitimacy to ask for the votes of the new generation.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC), at a today’s meeting, approved more decisions on the organization and holding of the general local elections due on 5 November 2023.
The CEC members considered more contestations and set forth their opinion on notifications by the Balti-based Police Inspectorate. In the context, the Commission obliged the Chance Political Party and the Revival Political Party to correct, till 17:00 of the day of 27 October 2023, the reports on the financial management, taking into account their erroneous completion. Additionally, the Revival Political Party was imposed a sanction in form of warning for the use of financial means other than the ones from the Electoral Fund account. As for the distribution of advertising materials which do not fit the norms of the Regulation on the way of provision, distribution and spread of the political, electoral advertising and of public interest messages, the party was obliged to remove them from public space.
At the same time, the Commission confirmed the person in charge of finances (treasurer) on behalf of the Political Party League of Cities and Communes for the period of the electoral campaign of the general local polls due on 5 November 2023.
Another subject on the agenda regarded the authorization of the SIMPALS Ltd Company to conduct an opinion poll on voters’ political preferences. Also, CEC approved three messages of public interest, worked out within the information campaign for the general local elections due on 5 November 2023.
The Commission members accredited 115 people as national observers on behalf of the Promo-LEX public association for monitoring the general local polls due on 5 November 2023. Another 21 people were accredited as international observers on behalf of the Embassy of Austria in Moldova and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe for monitoring the ballot; at the same time, nine persons were confirmed as interpreters on behalf of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe
The participants in the meeting approved decisions on the amendment of the nominal composition of the electoral councils of the Ocnita and Straseni district electoral constituencies, as well as on the assigning of one mandate of councilor in the Vulcanesti town council.
