Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - The residential sector is a big energy consumer in Moldova, with a rate of 45 per cent. Experts say that the adoption of simple, but efficient habits can contribute to the cutting of the consumption of energy, without giving up the comfort at home. In this respect, the Agency for Energy Efficiency (AEE) launched an information campaign titled, Transform the consumption in sustainable savings, thereby warning the citizens about the need to rationalize the consumption of energy.
Consumers often use energy without thinking about the quantity consumed or the impact on the environment, while the getting aware about one’s own consumption is the first step towards the saving of energy.
Several simple steps would help consumers decrease the energy invoice. Thus, citizens are urged to turn off the lights and electric apparatus when they leave the room, replace the incandescent lamps by LED ones, which have a lower consumption and a longer life, to use the washing machine only when it is full, in order to save energy for warming water, to avoid the placement of the fridge nearby the oven or radiators and to set the temperature properly, +3- +5 degrees for the fridge and -18 degrees for freezer, to unplug electric apparatus when they are no longer used. Plugged charging apparatus can account up to 10 per cent of the invoice for electric energy.
Another equally important aspect highlighted by experts point is the dwelling’s isolation. According to AEE, a poorly isolated dwelling losses heat indoors as follows: 35 per cent through walls; 25 per cent through roof; 15 per cent through floor, 25 per cent through doors and windows. All these losses find expression in the dissipation of energy and higher invoices by 20-30 per cent or even more.
The use of a thermostat also can bring up to 40 per cent savings for thermal energy. The recommendation for consuming energy responsibly is for the thermostat to be set at a lower temperature at night and when there is nobody at home.
At the same time, the replacement of old equipment by energy efficient one can significantly reduce the consumption of electric energy. The household appliances should be chosen with the highest class of the energy label and they should be used moderately. The turning off of the equipment properly, when they are not used, can bring significant savings for a long term.
The campaign, Transform the consumption in sustainable savings, is carried out by AEE, in partnership with the Energy Ministry, National Energy Regulatory Agency, state capital enterprise, Premier Energy Ltd, the stock company, Supply of Electric Energy North, Termoelectrica stock company, Thermal Power Station North (CET Nord) and the state enterprise Moldelectrica.
