Moldovan PM at Global Gateway Forum

Chisinau, Oct. 26 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean has participated in the Global Gateway Forum, hosted by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The event brought together government representatives from around the world, international organizations, financial institutions, business representatives, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In his speech, Recean emphasized the country's commitment to ensure transport interconnectivity and the develop modern transport systems, noting that this element is fundamental both for promoting economic growth and speeding up the country's integration into the single European market. The authorities are investing in infrastructure and emphasizing the creation of favorable conditions for attracting such investments from outside, despite the regional and global crises caused by Russia's brutal war against Ukraine.
"To strengthen regional connectivity, we need even greater investment in existing rail, road and port infrastructure and their interconnection with strategic transport hubs. Our goals can be achieved through partnerships and a common goal for which we work together. We can establish a solid network of global connectivity, turning Moldova into a key player in the development of international trade and the reconstruction of Ukraine," said Recean.
He also referred to the authorities' Plan on economic recovery, the initiation of new infrastructure projects, which aligns with the provision of solidarity lanes. At the same time, recently, within the Moldova Support Platform, it was proposed to create an Infrastructure Fund that will mobilize assistance for major projects.
During the Global Gateway Forum, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Olivér Várhelyi and President of the European Investment Bank Werner Hoyer signed an agreement, which comes with an additional non-refundable financial package of 12 million euros for the Republic of Moldova, money that will be invested in the rehabilitation and modernization of two key sections of railway lines. The rehabilitated railway infrastructure will improve internal connectivity in the Republic of Moldova, favoring regional stability and economic resilience.
Recean also met Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport. The officials spoke about the agreement on liberalization of road freight transport with the European Union, and the benefits of the Association Agreement to the mechanism for the interconnection of Europe, signed in May in Chisinau. It facilitates our country's access to European funds for infrastructure projects, in order to improve connectivity with Europe, as well as within the country.
The sides discussed the joint projects, which will contribute to the development of transport infrastructure connectivity on both the Romanian and Moldovan sides, submitted within the framework of the European Interconnection Mechanism. The financing is meant for the development of the cross-border infrastructure Albita - Leușeni, Galați - Giurgiulesti, and the construction of Ungheni - Ungheni bridge.
The event connects participating states, encouraging public and private investment in a global network of transport and supply chains, green energy, modern telecommunications, education and research.
