Former departed president of Moldovan Academy of Sciences commemorated at 90th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ - A roundtable titled, Academician Andrei Andries at 90th birthday anniversary: destiny of scientist and defender of academic Fortress, dedicated to the third president of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences (ASM), Andrei Andries, took place at ASM’s headquarters today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the acting president of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences, Svetlana Cojocaru, said that academician Andrei Andries had had a mandate of ASM president during 14 years, starting from November 1989 till February 2004.
Academician Andrei Andries was born in Chisinau on 24 October 1933. He graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Moldovan State University (1956). Andries maintained the thesis of doctor in physical and mathematical sciences at the A.F. Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute from St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1963. He is author/co-author of six monographs, about 500 scientific works and 30 patents.
He was member of the Academy of Engineering from Russia; member of the Albert Schweitzer-Gesellschaft Modling Austrian Society; member of the European Academy of Arts; honorary member of the Romanian Academy; president of the SPIE-Moldova Society; honorary member of the Romanian-American Academy; Doctor Honoris Causa of the Bucharest-based Poly-technical University.
Academician Andrei Andries passed away on 7 April 2012.
