Moldovan head of state receives on visit President of Portugal

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu hosts President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Chisinau on 30 and 31 October. The Moldovan head of state, who paid a state visit to Portugal in early October, said that the exchange of official visits marked a new stage in the bilateral relations, the presidential press service has reported.
„Our countries are interconnection in many kinds. More Moldovans settled in Portugal and contribute to the development of both countries. And our wine-makers for years have been using corks made in Portugal. I agreed with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to consolidate the cooperation between our countries. Today, the councils of rectors formalized the intention of collaboration in the higher education sector and on 31 October, the investment agencies from Moldova and Portugal will sign a cooperation agreement. I want us to attract more Portuguese companies to invest in Moldova, especially in the field of renewable energy,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state thanked her Portuguese counterpart for the consistent support of the country’s aspirations of accession to EU: ‘’We saw how Portugal strengthened its democracy and enhanced the living standards for its citizens after it had become EU member country. We want exactly the same thing. I am happy that Moldova has true partners and friends, such as Portugal, which support us.’’
