Chisinau, 31 October /MOLDPRES/ - The boosting of the Moldovan-Bulgarian dialogue at all levels today was discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Vice President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, on a working visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„The visit to Chisinau is a strong signal of political support and appreciation of the bilateral relations between Moldova and Bulgaria. We are grateful to you for the support provided to Moldova in the European integration process, as well as for the assistance provided to the Taraclia district and the citizens belonging to the Bulgarian ethnic group from our country,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.
The discussion of the officials was focused on subjects of common interest as to the economic cooperation, tourism, initiation of infrastructure and energy projects.
„In our bilateral relations, it is important that we put emphasis on the mutual development of tourism, on exchange of experience in starting successful businesses and on the energy interconnection,’’ Prime Minister Recean noted.
„In the European spirit, we want the ethnic Bulgarians from Moldova to preserve their identity and we discussed the transformation and development of the Taraclia University. Together with the Sofia government and with the support of higher education institutions from Bulgaria, we want this university to become regional. Against the background of Russia’s brutal invasion against Ukraine, this will create new regional opportunities, with European standards in the education sector,’’ the PM also said.
The vice president of Bulgaria welcomed the degree of development recorded by Moldova in the last period and the advancement on the European integration way. Also, Iliana Iotova referred to the new agreements which are to be signed between the two countries, including on the modernization of the Taraclia University, through the introduction of new education specialties. She also touched upon the creation of cultural information centres, which will promote the good understanding and the friendship between the two states.
„In the last years, Moldova has made substantial progress and I congratulate you for having chosen the way of modernization through integration into EU. There are still more challenges you should cope with, such as the reform in the justice sector, fighting corruption and criminality; yet, having the encouraging and the support of the European countries, you will succeed. Bulgaria is with you,’’ Iliana Iotova said.
The sides also discussed the fact that the work of the Moldovan-Bulgarian joint intergovernmental commission, due to be hosted by Sofia, would be resumed next year.
