Moldova's Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office finishes criminal prosecution as to MP Irina Lozovan

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) today informed that it had finished the criminal prosecution as to MP Irina Lozovan and her husband Girleanu Pavel, accused for the deliberate acceptance of political party’s financing by an organized crime ring.
According to anticorruption prosecutors, Irina Lozovan, being lawmaker and member of the Political Bureau of the REVIVAL Political Party, ‘’acting deliberately and by preliminary agreement with her husband and other people members of the leadership of the REVIVAL Political Party, deliberately accepted the financing of the REVIVAL Political Party on behalf of the organized crime ring led by Ilan Shor.’’
Irina Lozovan tried to lure the mayor of the Ocnita town, promising him one million lei personally and another million lei allocated to the mayoralty, in order to be used for the development of the Ocnita town’s infrastructure. Although the mayor of Ocnita refused the proposal, Irina Lozovan and her husband continued the action of persuasion, sending the mayor a sum of 30,000 dollars; the money, which came from the organized crime ring led by Ilan Shor, was raised by the husband of Irina Lozovan at the headquarters of the REVIVAL Political Party.
On 21 September 2023, the Moldovan MPs approved a demand by the acting prosecutor general on the lift of the immunity of Irina Lozovan, stripping her of parliamentary immunity.
According to prosecutors, at this point, the materials of the criminal file are to be presented to the accused people and their lawyers, their requests and approaches should be settled and subsequently, the criminal file is to be sent to court.
Irina Lozovan is on home arrest.
