PHOTO National Theatre Mihai Eminescu of Moldova unveils results of European tour made on 14-26 October

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Mihai Eminescu National Theatre (TNME), at a today’s news conference, unveiled the results of a European tour made by the theatre on 14-26 October. TNME presented a play-document titled, Siberian Files, according to memories by the victims of the Communist repressions, Ecaterina Chele, Margareta Cemartan-Spanu, a co-author of scenario, Ion Moraru. The stage manager of the plays is Petru Hadarca. The play, The Files of Siberia, started the European tour at the PALM OFF FEST European Festival in Prague, reaching Brussels, and Berlin and ending in Bistrita (Romania).          

Attending the event, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that this tour, with a play made according to evidence of deportees, was important more than ever now, when Moldova goes to the European Union with its heritage, with all its patrimony, with everything it has the best, in order to convey a message on who are we.  

”This tour is a great success and a perfect example of what cultural diplomacy means. We are expecting the opening of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union and on this period, it is extremely important that Moldova’s image should be quite clear and accurately conveyed to the citizens from EU. Or the subject of the Stalinist deportations from Bessarabia is our most important page. This is our grief, this is the grief of our parents and grandparents and we must convey this memory further,’’ Minister Sergiu Prodan stressed.        

For his part, the director of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre, Petru Hadarca, said the organization of this tour had been possible due to the efforts and involvement of the authorities, institutions and diplomatic missions from Moldova and Romania, as well as of organizations, non-governmental associations, Moldova’s fellow countrymen who settled abroad.    

”We felt ourselves ambassadors in this project and we even felt the impact and power to promote a cultural diplomacy. In Prague, we also held a conference titled, Resistance through culture, National Theatre – a stage of identity searches, for students and professors of the University from the Czech Republic’s capital. This was a special experience and exercise for us and we felt ourselves also diplomats, we felt ourselves ambassadors and we felt the impact of the message which we brought from Moldova,’’ Petru Hadarca said.     

Within this tour, TNME covered 5,200 km and played Siberian Files in front of more than 1,700 spectators from Prague, Brussels, Berlin and Bistrita.
