Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ - Eleven people representatives of the Chance political party have been detained by policemen from the Balti municipality for illegal activity of distribution of electoral folders.
According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), on 3 November evening, the suspects were involved in illegal activity of distribution of electoral folders to support a candidate affiliated with the Shor political party, declared unconstitutional. There are four minors among the suspects.
Thus, policemen established that the electoral folders were received at the office of the Chance political party from Balti, in order to be distributed in residents’ post boxes. They contained messages of backing a political representative of the same party.
„Those over 1,400 electoral folders raised by policemen at the moment of the people’s detaining have visible signs of infringement of the Electoral Code, as the inscription on their printing at personal equipment was present. At the same time, financial means worth about 10,800 lei (about 540 euros), more electoral lists, public contracts and commitments of political party’s representatives were detected and raised,’’ IGP said.
Law-enforcers said that ‘’the party’s members consciously involved minors in the criminal actions, as they know that they are not criminally liable.’’
The Balti Police Inspectorate notified the Central Electoral Commission about the infringements detected.
On 3 November, the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) ruled the cancellation of the registration of the electoral contenders nominated by the Chance political party for the general local elections due on 5 November 2023. According to the authorities, ‘’the decision is taken for reasons of national security, in the conditions of a hybrid war Russia wages against Moldova.’’ Thus, the seal ‘’Withdrawn’’ will be put on the ballot papers at all electoral contenders of the Chance party.
