Imprisoned people of Moldova express right to vote at general local elections

Chisinau, 5 November /MOLDPRES/ - The imprisoned people exercise their right to vote in accordance with the provisions of the legislation in force.
According to the National Administration Penitentiaries (ANP), the people detained based on a warrant arrest till the issuing of judge’s sentence, the ones convicted to imprisonment, whose sentence is not final, those ones who fulfill a contravention sanction in form of arrest, the people sentenced to imprisonment under final court’s sentence, those against home the preventive measure of home arrest is imposed and the ones detained in penitentiary institutions can vote at the place of their stay, if they reside or have the temporary residence in the administrative and territorial unit of the first level in the territorial area of which the concerned institution has its headquarters.
„These categories were registered in the basic electoral list for the voting at the place of stay, on the date of the ballot. In this respect, the penitentiary institutions, along with the polling stations in the area of the penitentiary’s placement endowed rooms specially with ballot boxes and voting booths for the holding of the elections,’’ ANP said.
So far, 769 out of 1,148 imprisoned people with right to vote have participated in the elections.
