Moldovan electoral body says general local elections declared valid in 820 settlements of Moldova

Chisinau, 5 November /MOLDPRES/ - The general local elections have been declared valid in 820 settlements of Moldova, as a voter turnout of over 25 per cent was recorded. The president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, unveiled data to this effect at a news briefing.
According to the CEC leadership, if there are settlements where the voter turnout is less than 25 per cent, repeated elections will be held in two weeks.
About 820,000 electors voted till 15:00 in all, which represents approximately 30 per cent of the number of voters included in the electoral lists. ‘’The highest voter turnout is registered in the settlement Pocrovca, Donduseni district, - over 67 per cent of the voters. In Chisinau, over 26 per cent of the electors exercised their right to vote. The most active voters are in the Rascani district – 26 per cent. Twenty eight per cent of the electors included in the electoral lists voted in the capital’s suburbs. The highest rate is recorded in Vadul lui Voda – 36 per cent and the lowest one – in Durlesti – 24 per cent. At the same time, 25 per cent of the voters included in the electoral lists voted in the Balti municipality and over 31 per cent – in Comrat,’’ Angelica Caraman said.
According to CEC, women are more active in the voting process, with 54 per cent of the votes expressed. Also, people with ages over 56 years are the most active.
General local elections are held in Moldova today. As many as 2,758,810 electors are expected to vote.
