Chisinau, 5 November /MOLDPRES/ - A voter turnout lower than 25 per cent is recorded in nine out of those 898 settlements where elections take place. The polls run the risk of being declared null in these settlements. The president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, unveiled data to this effect at a news briefing.
According to the CEC leadership, the electoral legislation sees that the elections are to be declared null in the settlements where the condition of participation in the voting of one fourth of the number of people registered in lists is not met.
“There are still two hours till the polling stations close and we hope, however, to have a presence of more than 25 per cent all over the country, in each out of those 898 settlements. After the closing of the polling stations, the electoral civil servants in the presence of the observers and electoral contenders’ representatives, will switch to the counting of the ballot papers and tabulation of results,’’ the CEC head said.
According to CEC’s data, till 19:00, the voter turnout was about 40 per cent. As many as 1,110,000 electors out of those 2,758,810 ones registered in lists voted at the polls.
