Central Electoral Commission says 1,147,393 electors vote at local elections in Moldova today

Chisinau, 5 November /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 1,147,393 electors (about 41.4 per cent) out of those 2,758,810 ones registered in lists voted till 21:00. Most polling stations are closed at this hour.
The citizens with right to vote today were expected at those 1,958 polling stations, in order to elect their mayors and councilors. As a result of the local polls, 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors are to be elected. More than 3,900 people willing to hold the office of mayor and over 56,000 citizens who want to become councilors ran for these positions.
As many as 7,669,667 ballot papers were printed for this ballot in the Romanian and Russian languages, with 5.7 million lei spent on this purpose.
Over 154 million lei was allocated from the state budget for the general local elections from this year. The ballot was monitored by over 1,500 national and international observers.
In the next hours, the electoral bureaus of the polling stations will start the counting of the votes and after the compilation of the official reports, CEC will unveil the preliminary results of the today’s elections.
The last general local; elections were held on 20 October 2019. The mandate of the local authorities is of four years.
