Moldovan Central Electoral Commission processes 185 out of 305 official reports received from Chisinau-based polling stations

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - According to the preliminary results unveiled by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), following the counting of 185 out of 395 official reports (60 per cent), the candidate of the National Alternative Movement Party (MAN) for the Chisinau mayor office, Ion Ceban, got over 52 percent of the votes and the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Lilian Carp, picked up 27 per cent of the votes.
CEC’s preliminary data shows that the voter turnout was of 40.9 per cent (266,978 people) in Chisinau till 21:00.
Twenty seven aspirants ran for the position of Chisinau mayor.
The electoral legislation envisages that the candidate for the office of mayor is regarded as elected, if he/she got more than a half of the validly expressed votes of the electors who participated in the voting.
If no candidate picks up more than a half of the number of validly expressed votes, a runoff election is held in a two-week period, with two candidates who grabbed the largest number of votes in the first round of the ballot.
