Candidate for office of Balti mayor excluded from race in runoff election

Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - Arina Corsicova, one of the two candidates which acceded to the runoff election for the office of mayor of the Balti municipality, has been excluded from the electoral race. The Electoral Council of the Balti Electoral Constituency took a decision on the cancellation of the registration in the ballot today evening. The reason for the exclusion was not announced.  

The decision was taken, following the consideration of an application on the exclusion from the electoral race of Arina Corsicova, submitted by Stefan Gligor and the candidate backed by the Party of Change for the Balti city hall, Nicolae Grigorisin. The decision enters into force on the date of its adoption and can be appealed under the legislation.     .

During the consideration of the subject, more people demonstrated in support of Arina Corsicova.  

In the first round of the general local elections from 5 November, independent candidate Arina Corsicova picked up 21.52 per cent of the votes and was to compete, in the runoff election, with Alexandr Petkov on behalf of the Our Party, who grabbed 22.69 per cent of the votes.    

Following the withdrawal of Arina Corsicova from the race, the Balti residents are to elect, in the runoff election, between Alexandr Petkov on behalf of the Our Party and Maxim Morosan (19.73 per cent) on behalf of the Party of Socialists (PSRM).
