Moldovan PM says EU integration way chosen by citizens, result of work carried out by everybody

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - This is the way the Moldovan citizens have chosen and the result of the work carried out by everybody. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made statements to this effect, after the European Commission today had recommended that the EU member states start the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.     

„An important day for Moldova. The European Commission today recommended that the EU member states open the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. This is the way our citizens have chosen and the result of the work carried out by everybody. Recognition of our efforts to adjust the national legislation to the European one, to consolidate the state’s institutions, to modernize the villages and cities, to adapt our community standards and values,’’ Dorin Recean said.    

The official noted that the Commission’s positive recommendation came one year and a half after Moldova had submitted the application on accession to EU; ‘’On this period, we consolidated our European aspirations, bringing together at the European Moldova Assembly and made even stronger relations with the family of European states, organizing the Summit of the European Political Community.’’   

Dorin Recean also said that the Commission’s announcement should not be regarded as a final achievement. ‘’We will have to continue working with a greater intensity till we become full-fledged member of the European Union. This is the principal reference point for the discussion of the heads of state and government at the European Council due in next December, when the final decision on the starting of the negotiations will be taken,’’ the prime minister added.  

The European Commission today recommended that the European Union member countries initiate the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to EU.
