European commissioner says there is support on behalf of European Council for starting negotiations on accession

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - The fact that the European Commission today recommended the starting of the negotiations on accession to EU with Moldova and Ukraine is a reason for happiness and I think that there is support on behalf of the European Council for these two states to start these negotiations. European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean has made statements to this effect in an interview with the AGERPRES agency, quoted by MOLDPRES.    

„The fact that the European Commission today makes a recommendation on the starting of the negotiations on the accession of these states to the European Union is a moment of happiness for Moldova and Ukraine. This is an accelerated process, as, we should not forget, a relatively short period of time has passed since the giving of the title of country candidate, with a clear-cut perspective, with several instructions. For instance, Moldova had a package of nine legislative or administrative reforms, which it should have carried out and on which a positive assessment of the way covered would have depended. Six out of these nine recommendations have been fulfilled positively. Take care, these recommendations mean, in fact, progress in the way the society, the economy and the rule of law state are organized in Moldova. So, this is a positive thing for them, first of all, but this was regarded as success by the European Commission,’’ Adina Valean said.    

According to the representative of the EU government, there are clear guarantees on behalf of Moldova that it will fulfill the recommendations left, so that in next December, the European Council takes note of the Commission’s recommendation and approves the starting of the negotiations on accession.  

„For Moldova, we plan this starting of the negotiations to be decided from the technical viewpoint in the second step for next March, if everything goes well. This means that we have a pretty short perspective in which we see that the negotiations on accession with Moldova begin,’’ Valean said.
