Chisinau, Nov. 9 /MOLDPRES/- German government through GIZ will invest 5 million euros in the next three years in energy efficiency projects and strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Efficiency Agency.
"Moldova needs support in the energy transition and decarbonization, especially in significantly reducing energy costs for citizens and businesses, in the context where around 50% of the energy consumed in our country comes from building maintenance. It's a long road, and GIZ will help us speed up to achieve the decarbonization agenda", Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov said.
German ambassador to Moldova Margret Maria Uebber said that over the years, GIZ has implemented several projects to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings, such as schools, kindergartens, hospitals. "Energy security has become an important issue for Moldova. Not only has the Government successfully managed to end dependence on Russian gas, but it has embarked on a path to end dependence on a single source and diversify its energy sources. In this context, renewable energies and energy efficiency play a major role," the German ambassador said.
Through the project, Germany will also support the development of the residential energy efficiency fund managed by the National Center for Sustainable Energy, which will provide subsidies for owners of individual houses and apartments.
