Moldovan Central Electoral Commission presents profile of candidates for office of mayor in runoff election of general local polls

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has unveiled information on the profile of the candidates for the mayor office at the runoff election of the general local polls, due on 19 November 2023.
The runoff election will take place in 273 settlements of Moldova. According to statistics information, 488 out of 544 candidates for the mayor office are nominated by political parties (348 men and 140 women) and 56 are independent (38 men and 18 women).
Two candidates will be registered in each ballot paper - the ones who picked up the largest number of votes in the first round of the elections. Exception represents the village of Cotova, northern Drochia district, and the Todiresti commune, central Ungheni district, where one candidate will be registered in the ballot paper.
A number of 158 out of all candidates are women (29.05 per cent) and 386 are men (70.95 per cent). According to the age criterion, 77 candidates (14.15 per cent) have ages between 23 and 35 years, 186 candidates (34.19 per cent) are aged between 36 and 50 years, 275 candidates (50.55 per cent) have ages between 51 and 70 years and six candidates (1.10 per cent) are older than 71 years.
Under the electoral legislation, at the runoff election, the polls are declared valid in each electoral constituency, if at least 20 per cent of the number of people registered in the electoral lists from that settlement participates in them.
