Romania-Moldova Economic Forum held in Chisinau

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - Business people and officials from both banks of the Prut river in Chisinau today participated in the second edition of the Romania-Moldova Economic Forum, dedicated to the promotion of the bilateral trade and the investment sector.
Over 200 companies from Romania and Moldova announced their presence at the event, in such fields as the financial and banking, commerce, logistics, IT, academic sector.
Ambassador of Romania to Moldova, Cristian Leon-Turcanu said that investors from both bank of the Prut river were working day after day for the rapprochement and harmonization of the two countries’ economies, for a better competitiveness internationally, for the creation of new jobs and for the development of communities in which they carry out their activity. ‘’Moldova’s reintegration in the European family becomes an ever nearer reality and Romania, in its capacity of commercial partner of Moldova, is its principal supporter. Romania is also the main recipient of Moldova’s exports, with 33 per cent of all exports. Doubtlessly, Romania and Moldova bring value added to the European Union,’’ the Romanian ambassador said.
According to Secretary General of Romania’s Government, Mircea Abrudean, the Romanian companies present on the market of Moldova created over 10,000 jobs and have an overall turnover of almost one billion euros. ‘’In late 2022, the overall investments of Romania in Moldova amounted to 692 million dollars. In 2022 year alone, the bilateral trade recorded a 48-per cent growth against 2021. Practically, each year, we establish new records as regards the bilateral commerce. Romania in the last years has been the principal sales market for the products from Moldova. Well-known trademarks are known to the Romanian consumer as well. There are significant opportunities of investments, including in the agricultural sector and of processing the agricultural production, in the energy sector or in the renewable energy field,’’ Mircea Abrudean said.
Deputy PM, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba said that Romania was the principal commercial and investments partner of Moldova. ‘’We have more than 1,600 enterprises with Romanian capital. This fact places Romania at the head of the investors from Moldova. Our economy proved that it is adaptable, switching from an exclusive orientation to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to a resolute direction to the West in the last 15 years. We are already in full advance of economic integration into EU and Romania is a solid partner in this respect,’’ Alaiba said.
The second edition of the Romania-Moldova Economic Forum is organized by the Investors’ Association of Romania in Moldova, Embassy of Romania in Moldova and the Romanian Agency for Investments and Foreign Trade.
