Over 10 million euros to be invested in modernization of five universities of Moldova

Chisinau, 23 November /MOLDPRES/ - Five universities of Moldova will receive financing worth over 10 million euros for the implementation of 13 projects in priority sectors of professional training. The investments will be made within the project, Higher Education in Moldova (round II), implemented by the Education and Research Ministry and financed by the World Bank. As many as 35,000 students and 2,300 teachers will benefit from the new conditions.
The beneficiary institutions are the Moldovan State University, Technical University of Moldova, Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University, Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Alecu Russo State University from Balti. They were selected based on a contest of proposals of projects.
Till late 2025, 12 last-generation laboratories will be created and endowed at the five institutions; another 40 present laboratories will be endowed with advanced technologies. At the same time, three research centres, six poly-functional halls and two highly advanced computer platforms, including in the artificial intelligence field, will be arranged. The teaching process will be modernized through updating the higher education degree and master syllabi, in accordance with the requirements of the labour market. More exactly, over 50 education syllabi will be modernized, 30 new courses will be worked out; over 50 curricula will be revised and updated within about 60 new partnerships.
Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that this project, launched in 2020, represented the biggest investment on behalf of the state in the higher education in the last years. ‘’The overall budget is close to about 800 million lei, which is about one additional budget for the higher education and represents significant resources, which will help us modernize this field, in order to turn it more attractive for students and to persuade them to remain in Moldova, to study and afterwards work and contribute to the country’s development,’’ the minister said.
The Higher Education in Moldova project is financed by the World Bank and is implemented by the Education and Research Ministry, on the period 2020-2025. This is the second round of providing grants within the project. In the first round, held last year, about 14.3 million euros was allocated for the implementation of 20 projects in 13 education institutions - seven universities and six pedagogical colleges.
