As many as 361 schools cease working over bad weather in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 361 primary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums have ceased working over the heavy snowfall and unfriendly weather conditions of last Sunday, as a result of the decisions by local public authorities.
According to data by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), most of these schools – 151 – are from the Chisinau municipality. Twenty seven schools were closed in the Anenii Noi district, 26 – in Stefan Voda, 35 – in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, 19 – in Causeni, 17 – in Taraclia, 16 – In Cantemir, 13 – in Leova, 10 schools in Ialoveni and Rezina each, 9 schools in Cahul, 8 – in Basarabeasca, five schools in Criuleni, Dubasari and Orhei each, 3 – in Cimislia and 2 schools in Hancesti.
Another 20 schools held their classed online. At the same time, in five schools, the teaching process was carried out both online and with physical presence, given that some pupils were not able to move by the school transport means and connected online.
More than 150,000 children study at the institutions which today ceased working. Another 3,866 children participated in the education process online.
The way and the schedule of the classes’ recovery will be decided by the local/municipal specialty bodies, jointly with the education institutions’ administrations.
MEC will monitor the work of the institutions on the days to come and will come up with additional information.
As many as 1,203 general education institutions work in Moldova.
