Moldovan government approves state budget for 2024, We Invest for Children

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ - The state budget for 2024 is a sustainable and solidary one, focused on the social sector and oriented to investments in the long run. The budget provides for essential allocations for children, including the increase in the childbirth allowance, increase in the salaries for teachers by 15 per cent and the doubling of the scholarships of the students from the faculties with pedagogical specialties, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

„The government is by the side of all sectors with the biggest needs. We approved the budget for 2024, We Invest for Children. We ruled in 2024 to allocate most money for the future of children, the generation which will edify the future Moldova, through access to modern and qualitative education, for a consolidated and prosperous education,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said at a cabinet meeting.       

Thus, starting from 1 January 2024, the childbirth allowance will be increased up to 20,000 lei and the salaries of more than 50,000 people – teachers from Moldova, will grow by 15 per cent. To this end, about one billion lei will be earmarked. Also, the financial allocations for the programme, Protection of family and child, will be increased and money will be allocated for the development of the country’s villages and cities, so that the families benefit from good conditions at home and the children – from opportunities of development.      

At the same time, according to the budget, the actions on backing the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) stay priority, with over 196 million lei earmarked for financing a string of programmes.   

Another major priority is the continuous development of the transports and infrastructure system. Through ensuring measures of policies in the transport sector, financial means worth 4, 036.5 million lei are planned in the state budget, of which 1,393.9 million lei - from external sources, 2,505.6 million lei for the repair and maintenance of national and local roads.    

The budget for the 2024 year sees also allocations worth 1,600 million lei for the subsidization of the agricultural sector and rural development, 322.1 million lei for energy efficiency, 601.5 million lei is meant for the National Fund of Regional and Local Development and 170 million lei – for the promotion of policies in the environmental protection sector.

The draft law also sees a 4.4-per cent increase in the revenues of the national public budget against the volume specified in 2023 and will amount to 107,172 million lei. The increase in revenues will be backed, first of all, by the economic improvement, measures of the fiscal and customs policy, as well as by a better management of incomes. The expenses will stand at 122, 962 million lei and will be by about 1.5 per cent higher against the 2023.       

The deficit of the national public budget is estimated within the limit of 15,790 million lei or 4.6 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product. In late 2024, the state debt will amount to 125,525.6 million lei, of which 64.5 per cent will be the state foreign debt and 35.5 per cent – the domestic state debt. The debt’s share in GDP will not exceed 37 per cent.      

The draft is to be submitted to parliament for consideration.
