Case of rabies in cattle detected in northern district of Moldova

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) today informed that one case of rabies in a cow had been registered in the Solonceni settlement, northern Rezina district.   

„One case of rabies in cow from the Solonceni settlement, Rezina district, was recorded in Moldova on the period 28 November – 4 December. The body of the cow hit by rabies was destroyed according to the procedures and the animals from the settlement were vaccinated against rabies,’’ ANSA said.  

According to the institution, competent people presently undertake activities of control and eradication of the hotbed of the disease.  

Last week, the National Food Safety Agency informed that one case of rabies in cow had been registered in the Suri settlement, northern Drochia region.  

The rabies is an infectious disease of viral etiology, met in all species of warm-blooded animals, transmissible to man, characterized by acute evolution with nervous manifestations, expressed through hyper-excitability and aggressiveness, followed by paralysis and death. The virus is secreted in spittle and is transmitted as usual to animals and humans through bites of infected animal.
