Moldovan president discusses by phone with PMs of Belgium, Ireland

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had phone conversations with Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander de Croo and PM of Ireland Leo Varadkar. The main subject of the discussions was Moldova’s progress made in the process of accession to the European Union, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state referred to Moldova’s solid efforts in the carrying out of the reforms necessary for the country’s modernization and advancement on the European integration way. The Moldovan president highlighted the significant progress made in the fulfillment of the European Commission’s recommendations, reflected in the Commission’s report due on 8 December.
During the discussions, Maia Sandu urged the Belgian and Irish leaders to support the decision on the initiation of the negotiations with Moldova as soon as possible. The issue is to be discussed at the meeting of the European Council, due on 14-15 December.
Till then, President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Deputy PM, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu will hold discussions with high-ranking officials of all EU member states, in order to promote the importance of launching the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
