Minimum salary to be 5,000 lei in Moldova in 2024, up by 1,000 lei against 2023

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - The minimum salary on country will increase from 4,000 lei to 5,000 lei starting from the next year. A decision to this effect today was approved at a cabinet meeting, following a preliminary consultations with the social partners.
According to the government’s communication department, the size of the minimum salary on the country is established for a full working schedule of 169 hours, representing 29.58 lei per one hour.
The increase in the minimum salary up to 5,000 lei is reasoned by the need to ensure a continuous increase in the minimal guarantees in the salary payment sector, in order to maintain a fair competition environment regionally and internationally as regards the use of the labour force.
The minimum salary in the public sector has doubled in the last two years. Beginning with the 2023 year, the government unified the minimum salary, which is enforced in the same quantum both in the public and in the real sector. Retrospectively, for 2022, the quantum of the minimum salary grew from 2,200 to 3,500 lei. Starting from 1 January 2023, the minimum salary on Moldova was increased by about 12.5 per cent – up to 4,000 lei.
