Chisinau, 7 December /MOLDPRES/ - The data with the names of passengers in the air transport sector will be used in Moldova. The parliament adopted a draft law which stimulates this in the second reading.
Thus, the data from the register with the names of passengers could be subsequently submitted to the competent authorities of Moldova and other states, as well as to Europol.
The informative note to the document reads that this will contribute to the carrying out of the measures of ensuring the security, through detecting people affiliated with the terrorist groups and formations, those suspected of committing of terror acts or passengers who pose risks to the national security. More exactly, the collection and use of data from the register of passengers will allow identifying the people who pose certain risks ahead of reaching the border crossing point and the competent authorities will be able to take a decision on the additional measures which must be enforced before their arrival.
According to the procedure proposed, the data about passengers will be submitted from air carriers to the Unit of information on passengers through a single desk and the General Inspectorate of Border Police will be able to collect this data. At the same time, the data will be able to be sent to other states and international organizations, including Europol, according to the legal procedures and based on the international treaties Moldova is party to. The Unit of information on passengers will be set up at the General Inspectorate of Border Police and the costs for its operationalization will be covered by the International Organization for Migration.
The draft law was elaborated by the Interior Ministry, in order to transpose the EU directives into the national legislation. The draft law will enter into force 12 months after its publication in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
