Justice minister awarded Anticorruption Champion title

Chisinau, Dec. 8 /MOLDPRES/- U.S. Department of State awarded Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru the honorary title of Anti-corruption Champion.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken handed out the award at the International Anticorruption Champions Award Ceremony.
The Minister of Justice spoke about the processes started in the Republic of Moldova, including the fight against corruption, as well as the difficulties.
"One of the main goals of the Government of the Republic of Moldova is to ensure the independence and functionality of the judicial system, which will lead to an increase in trust in the judicial system. Equally important are the de-oligarchization measures, the strengthening anti-corruption institutions, as well as the asset recovery mechanism", said the minister.
Veronica Mihailov-Moraru pointed out the need to boost mutual legal cooperation, including with regard to financial investigations in cases of transnational crime and organized crime, in order to identify and recover criminal assets.
The Anti-Corruption Champion award was set up two years ago at the initiative of the U.S. Department of State. This year, the United States have given the award to 11 personalities from all over the world.
