Chisinau, Dec. 9 /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu participated in the Mayors' Forum today. He congratulated the elected and re-elected mayors for the trust and support they have got from citizens, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
"It was no easy job, especially since they worked in a difficult campaign with unprecedented interference from a foreign country in our internal affairs", he said.
The speaker also spoke about commitments, the first of which is that by the end of this year, the salary increase for mayors, vice-mayors and secretaries of local councils will be voted on. It was requested today by President Maia Sandu. Many of the issues raised today I heard when I was personally in the communities, he said. "Together with the Government we will provide support in fulfilling the most natural things for people in our villages and towns - water and sewerage, good schools and kindergartens for our children, roads, public lighting, stadiums and playgrounds. All this is possible through active communication and a strong partnership. We all want to transform Moldova, village by village, city by city into a European country", he said.
Mayors' Forum was held in Chisinau today. The event - Future of Local Public Administration was organized by the government, in collaboration with the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova. All 895 elected or re-elected mayors were invited to the Forum, who discussed with representatives of the Government, the Parliament and experts from the associative environment. The main topics addressed during the discussions concerned the development of localities in the process of our country's accession to the European Union, funds for regional development and opportunities to modernize communities.
