Moldovan pupils, teachers with outstanding results at school Olympiads to get twice higher prizes

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - The money prizes for the pupils who get positions with prizes at national and international Olympiads will be doubled. For instance, for a golden medal got at a regional competition, the prize winner who accumulated the maximal number of points will receive 25,000 lei on behalf of the state, against 12,500 lei earlier and 50,000 lei (2.500 euros) – for the same performance achieved at a world competition. The cabinet approved a decision to this effect today.  

The amendments also see the increase by about 67 per cent of the norms of remuneration of the people involved in the activities of evaluation at national, regional and international Olympiads and contests, held in Moldova.  

At the same time, the sum allocated for the organization in Moldova of regional and international Olympiads and contests, which has not been  changed since 2006, will be increased. The initiative comes given that, in 2024, Moldova will host the eighth edition of the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics, in which pupils from over 30 countries are to participate.    

„We come up with good news for pupils with good high marks and their teachers. We double the prizes awarded to our participants in Olympiads. We increase the norms of remuneration of the people involved in the activities of evaluation at the republican, regional and international Olympiads and contests. At the same time, the sum of money earmarked for the accommodation of pupils, nourishment, providing with office articles will be increased,’’ Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said.     

The overall cost of the project’s implementation is of about 9.7 million lei.  

According to the Education and Research Ministry, over 3,500 pupils and teachers annually take part in republican Olympiads and contests. Also, the national Olympic teams yearly participate in 20 regional and international Olympiads.
