Moldovan parliament speaker says today's vote historical moment for Moldova

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - The today’s vote represents a historical moment for Moldova, marking the most important step made so far for our accession to the great family of the European Union. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect, after the European Council today voted for the starting of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.     

The speaker stressed that the decision represented a victory of the citizens who had chosen the European integration way. ‘’Day after day, in the last years, despite all crises, we have been guided by the European values; we affirmed our place in the world as a free country, which protects the life and dignity of the people. The European Council’s decision is a consolidated message of a confident Europe, which defends the peace and edifies a solid democratic future given to the entire world,’’ Igor Grosu said.

The official thanked the colleagues from the Parliament, Government, Presidency and other institutions. ‘’We thank also our citizens, with whom we have worked and will work in continuation with self-denial, for this desideratum to become reality as soon as possible. We thank our friends from Bucharest, European MPs from Brussels and all those who supported us on this way. We are the backers of a fair process of negotiations and based on merits and we will continue to do our homework conscientiously. We will write the history of Europe together!’’ Igor Grosu said.     

The European Council today voted for the starting of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. The decision comes after, on 8 November 2023, the European Commission recommended that the European Union member countries initiate the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
