Chisinau, Dec. 15 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration came up today with explanations about Moldova's accession to the European Union. Out of the 10 steps set in the process, four more remain to be completed.
Moldova submitted its application for accession to the Council of the European Union on March 3, 2022. It subsequently received the Questionnaire regarding the application for EU membership on April 11, 2022. The answers to the Questionnaire (parts I and II) were submitted to the European Commission. The accession negotiations were opened yesterday after the agreement of the member states of the EU Council.
Thus, during the negotiations, the country will implement EU legislation and standards in all 35 negotiation chapters. After negotiations with all EU governments are concluded, the Commission will issue an opinion on the degree of readiness to become EU members. Based on the Opinion, the member states must decide to conclude the negotiations, and the European Parliament gives its consent. In the last step, all member states and the candidate country sign and ratify the Accession Treaty. The country becomes an EU member.
