PHOTO Popular craftsmen from all over Moldova participate in National Fair of Carpet

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - Over 20 popular craftsmen from Moldova today participated in the tenth edition of the National Fair of Carpet titled, Covorul dorului (Carpet of Longing), held at the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum (MNEIN) from Chisinau.   

The event was organized by the Culture Ministry, MNEIN and the National Centre of Conservation and Promotion of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.  

In his greeting message, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that presently we can find out that this traditional carpet, the techniques of manufacturing it represents world value, recognized by UNESCO. He noted that the presence of numerous visitors at the event spoke about the fact that the concerned tradition was developing and had continuity.  

”We, as society, have learned to attach value on our heritage. I am very much happy that the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum, along with the National Centre of Conservation and Promotion of the Intangible Cultural Heritage managed to perpetuate this nice initiative; I mean the tenth anniversary of the National Fair of Carpet, launched by the Culture Ministry and turn it into an event expected by many people. The today’s event is dedicated to the carpet – a very old element of the Romanian tradition. The wall carpet and other types of carpets have become much more appreciated in our communities. They took over their the honourable place in the homes of the Bessarabian Romanians from villages and cities, becoming important and valuable heritage pieces, an inestimable heritage received from parents and grandparents. The turning to good account of the traditions and their promotion must become a permanent action, both on behalf of the communities and of the local authorities. This is a national priority for the Culture Ministry,’’ Minister Sergiu Prodan stressed.
