Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - A new radiotherapeutic complex will be constructed at the headquarters of the Oncological Institute. The construction worth about 59 million lei will have a total area of 932 square metres and the costs will be covered by the government of the United States and funds of the National Health Insurances Company (CNAM).
According to the Health Ministry, the event on the official launch of the works on the construction of the complex took place today. The building will be meant for two linear accelerators and one system of brachitherapy and will ensure an extended access of patients to advanced procedures of radiotherapy.
Presently, the medical institution has only two linear accelerators, one being set in 2009 and the second one in 2022. Through a project financed by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the International Atomic Energy Agency, a new linear accelerator was purchased, which will contribute to the facilitation and enhancement of the capacity of cancer’s treatment both for the citizens of Moldova and the refugees from Ukraine.
According to the quoted source, the presence of the third device will considerably reduce the waiting queues and enhance the chances of patients’ survival. Yet, the functionality of the device is conditioned by the existence of a therapeutic complex, which is to be built with the support of foreign partners.
