PHOTO Over 80 representatives of business environment attend information session on new Customs Code

Chisinau, Dec. 20 /MOLDPRES/- Over 80 representatives of business environment participated today in an information session - Changes in the Information System of the Customs Service from 1 January 2024. The event is organized in partnership with the European Union, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

The event aims to inform the business environment representatives about the changes in the Information System of the Customs Service from January 1, 2024, given the implementation of the new Customs Code, according to the commitments assumed by the Republic of Moldova under the Association Agreement with the EU on adjusting customs legislation to European rules.

Attending the event were the Customs Service management and representatives of the relevant subdivisions, of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova and business environment.

The head of the Customs Service, Igor Talmazan, said that with the harmonization of customs procedures with those of the EU, the business environment will have more benefits, and through the use of modern customs control tools and technologies, the interaction with customs officials will be reduced, being implemented a fully automated activity system.

"The new Customs Code includes the transposition of European rules. We want to inform economic agents of the new provisions. The new Customs Code is adjusted to all EU mechanisms, as the Republic of Moldova has several commitments in the European integration process. I assure you that the new provisions will facilitate trade. These are in favor of the business environment", said Talmazan.

Trade Officer of the EU Delegation to Moldova Vasile Plămădeală said that at today's event the business community will be familiar with the new customs provisions, which will come into force from January 1, 2024.

"EU Customs Code is successfully implemented in all European states and we hope it will also work effectively in the Republic of Moldova, a country that is taking firm and sure steps towards EU integration. The new Customs Code includes a number of rules that will simplify customs procedures. It provides more convenience in the trade process, a more friendly, transparent interaction and excludes the risks of corruption. It will facilitate the activity of both the officials and business environment", Plămădeala said.

The Customs Service organized a total of nine information sessions offline and 13 online ones on the new Customs Code. The information campaign is carried out with the EU support.
