Stamps issued on opening of accession negotiations of Moldova to EU

Chisinau, Dec. 22 /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan Post Office state-owned enterprise put into circulation today a special edition of 15,000 stamps on opening of the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

According to the authorities, the stamp issue is a celebration of an important stage in the history of the Republic of Moldova. "European integration is our historic chance for a better life, for a more prosperous and safer future for all our citizens. Moldova's future is in the European Union!", the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization said.

The stamps have a value of ten lei and contain an image of the outline of the map of the Republic of Moldova framed by the stars on the flag of the European Union.

The European Council voted on December 14 to start the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. The decision comes after, on November 8, the European Commission recommended the member countries of the European Union to initiate negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.

In last June Moldova received the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union. Chisinau authorities were presented with nine conditions in order to proceed to the next stage of accession - negotiations. This autumn the level of implementation of the European Commission's recommendations was evaluated, followed by the decision on the start of negotiations for EU accession.
