Moldovan president awards state distinctions to foreign affairs minister, foreign policy adviser

Chisinau, 26 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today signed a decree, thereby awarding the Order of the Republic to Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicolae Popescu, the presidential press service has reported.    

The distinction was awarded as token of high appreciation of the professionalism showed in the foreign policy sector, for the constant support of Moldova’s European integration efforts, as well as for the major contribution to the opening of the negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union.

Also today, President Maia Sandu signed a decree, thereby awarding the Civic Merit medal to the adviser in the field of foreign policy and European integration, Cristina Gherasimov, who was appointed as state secretary at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) on 5 December 2023. The medal is awarded for special merits in the promotion of the foreign policy, constant backing of the European integration efforts and for substantial contribution to the starting of the negotiations on accession.
