Moldova to be exempted from payment of contributions to EU programmes

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will be exempted from the payment of the financial contributions to European Union’s programmes. At a today’s meeting, the members of the parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration approved a notification on the starting of the negotiations and approval of the signing of an Agreement between Moldova’s government and the European Commission, which stipulates this.
The document sees that, for the period 2021-2027, Moldova’s financial contributions to the European Union’s programmes will be suspended. The proposal was made by the European Commission, in the context of the economic, financial and political consequences borne by Moldova following Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
According to the authorities, also the future agreements on Moldova’s association with European Union’s programmes will be able to be exempted from the country’s financial contribution. The need to maintain the suspension will be assessed annually by the European Commission, based on the information provided by Moldova’s government.
Presently, Moldova has concluded more agreements with the European Union on the participation in more EU’s topic-related programmes, among which Fiscalis, Customs, Single Market Programe, EU4Health, LIFE, Horizon Europe, Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Connecting Europe Facility. Thus, Moldova can benefit from the financing of projects in more sectors.
