Top European bank to provide financial support for construction of Balti-Suceava 400 kV overhead power line

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide financial support for the construction, endowment and putting into operation of the Overhead Power Line (OPL) which will connect the Balti municipality (Moldova) and the Suceava city (Romania) (OPL 400kV Balti-Suceava).   

At a today’s meeting, the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration approved a consultative opinion for starting the negotiations on the draft Agreement on Loan between Moldova and EBRD on the carrying out of the Project, Interconnection of the power networks from Moldova and Romania, phase II.    

Thus, EBRD will provide a loan worth 30.8 million euros, which accounts for 40 per cent of the project’s overall cost. The rest of the financing will be provided by the European Investment Bank and the European Union.  

Thus, EBRD will provide financing for more components of the project: construction of the power transportation line of 400 kV between Balti and Suceava; construction of the 400 kV Balti station; rehabilitation of Moldova’s current domestic electric energy transportation networks; support consultancy for the implementation of the related projects and works on supervision and designing.   

In 2017, the project, Interconnection of the power networks from Moldova and Romania, phase I, was launched, which is aimed at building the 400 kV Overhead Power Line Vulcanesti-Chisinau and of a Back-to-Back station in the Vulcanesti district.
