Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - The network of higher education institutions of Moldova continues to be consolidated. The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved a draft on the merger of the State University of Physical Education and Sport (USEFS), through absorption, with the State University of Moldova (USM), the government’s communication department has reported.
Thus, the students will have more opportunities of choosing the courses and the syllabi and will benefit from more facilities – endowed laboratories, modern sports halls and renovated hostels. At the same time, the students will be transferred to the same syllabi, without the change of the school fee.
Presently, USEFS has only 1,871 students and four fields of education, against those 18 education fields and over 11,000 students of USM.
„In the last three years, the overall number of the USEFS students decreased by about 15 per cent and the admission to the university is constantly decreasing. This fact triggered significant financial problems for the institution and the ministry had to cover the salary deficit of 6 million lei, in conditions when the budget for the university was the biggest one ever provided, reaching about 33 million lei,’’ Minister Dan Perciun said.
According to the international ranking of the best universities of the world, USM is on the place 3,612, while USEFS is on the position 18,967 out of 36,000.
