Moldova's Commission for Emergency Situations approves measures to ensure country's energy, food security

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Energocom stock company is to conclude, till 29 December this year, contracts on the purchasing of electric energy for January-April 2024. The decision was approved at a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE), in order to ensure Moldova’s energy security, the government’s communication department has reported.   

Also, the Moldovagaz stock company and the Energocom stock company till 29 December 2023 will conclude an EFET-type contract on the delivery of natural gas for the period January-April 2024.   

To provide the entire territory of Moldova with energy resources and natural gas, during January-April 2024, the Moldovagaz stock company will provide the entire volume of natural gas delivered by the Gazprom giant in an amount of 5.7 million cubic metres/day to the consumers on the left bank of Dniester, including Moldavskaia GRES (Kuchurgan power station).

Also today, the CSE member instructed measures on the import of wheat, maize and sunflower seeds, which will be allowed based on a licence released by the Agriculture and Food industry Ministry (MAIA). The measure was approved for a period of three months, in order to maintain on the domestic market a sustainable price for the native cereal products from the economic viewpoint. The application on the issuance of the import licence might be submitted by a legal entity or private person who carries out economic activities of fabrication of oils and fats, miller’s products, preparations for the feeding of farm animals or breeding animals. The requests will be considered by a commission set up by MAIA.    

Another decision regards the allocation of 63.6 million lei to the National Food Safety Agency from the government’s intervention fund, in order to provide compensations to the owners of the animals slaughtered following the outburst of a hotbed of African swine flu, registered at the Golden Piglet Ltd company for breeding pigs from the Soltanesti village, central Nisporeni district, on 1 December 2022.
