Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament has adopted the draft law on the official controls in the agro-food sector in the second reading. The document approximates the national legislation to the European Union’s legislation in the field of food safety, sanitary and phyto-sanitary policies – a commitment taken by Moldova through the Association Agreement with EU.
The new law regulates the carrying out of official controls concerning the animals, plants and goods which enter Moldova from other countries, for the protection of the health of people, animals and plants. The authority in charge of the organization and carrying out of the official controls in the phyto-sanitary field will be the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA).
The document also contains a string of norms with the role to prevent the risks which might be triggered by the genetically modified organisms or by the phyto-sanitary products and its provisions regard the entire agro-food chain, beginning with the production, sale, up to the export of animal origin products.
The new law will enter into force 24 months after its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova (Monitorul Oficial).
