Moldovan adopts new Land Code

Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The title on the farmlands or lands from the forest fund will not be able to be acquired or held by foreign citizens, private people or legal entities. The parliament adopted a new Land Code today.
Under the document, if foreign citizens acquire farmlands or lands from the forest fund through inheritance, court decision or mortgage, they will be obliged to sell them in a period of one year after the date of getting the title on the land.
The new code provides for a classification of farmlands and contains regulations on the change of the way of their use. Thus, the owners of farmlands will be able to construct on these lands deposits, fridges meant for the preservation of agricultural products, workshops for repair and preservation of agricultural units, animal farms, objects of infrastructure and primary processing of production got, agro-tourist boarding houses, without the change of the lands’ purpose. This will be able to be made based on the project documentation approved, issued by the local public administration authority.
The code also sees the ban on the change of the purpose of the farmlands of higher quality and of the lands from the forest fund, historical, cultural and nature reserves, historical monuments and archaeological sites, as well as on the carrying out in these areas of any activities which run counter their purpose.
The document regulates also the ways of consolidation of farmlands, as well as the actions undertaken, if the owners did not process the acts of inheritance on these lands and do not maintain them and they are left lay-land.
