Prosecutor General to be elected by Superior Council of Prosecutors

Chisinau, Dec. 28 /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor General will be elected under the vote of the majority of the members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors. A draft law on excluding the mandatory scores was voted by 57 MPs.
The draft law was worked out by Igor Chiriac, deputy of the Action and Solidarity Party. The author proposes to amend the Law on Prosecutor's Office.
Thus, the candidates for the position of general prosecutor will be evaluated by each member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors according to the training and professional skills, integrity and other personal qualities of the candidates. The candidate who will pick up the largest number of votes, but not less than half of the number of members present during a meeting with a quorum, will be proposed to the President of the Republic of Moldova to be appointed to the position of Prosecutor General. If no candidate picks up required number of votes, a repeat contest will be organized.
Currently, the normative framework provides that the general prosecutor is appointed based on the score given by each CSP member.
